Missin’ U(t)

Preface: We do not want to move back to Utah.

4 things we miss about Utah:

1. Cafe Rio

2. Zupas

3. Rumbi

4. Snow

Time out . . . did I just say snow? Yes, we kind of miss the beautiful falling snow. The snow makes me have a lot of fun memories.

One that stands out: When Nathan and I first started chatting/e-mailing back and forth, we hadn’t ever hung out or talked in person much. In one gchat convo, Nathan said that the next time I see him outside (he lived just up the street from me) I had to come say hi. It was snowing one day and I looked out my window to see Nathan shoveling his driveway. (butterflies in my stomach) Lightbulb! hmm looks like our driveway needs to be shoveled right at this moment . . . I walked out and instantly turned my back to him to start shoveling away. Well, I didn’t want to make eye contact because then I would have to say hi. Just say hi. No I’m too nervous. How would I say hi? Would I yell it? Should I walk over there and say hi? I really want to. This is way too awkward. I can’t do it. I noticed that he was finishing up. I was hoping by this time that he would walk down and say hi to me. I continued to look like I was working hard. Slight glance over in his direction: gone. Sad face. I finished up and went back inside. I  noticed an e-mail from him already. “Are you wearing a red beanie? If so, thanks for following through with your commitment to say hi earlier.” He then goes on to say, “Maybe we should just try waving first.  Saying hi seems like such a big step.” Funny Nathan. I was always so giddy writing those emails/gchatting. So much fun to look back on.

Oh goodness, this is too funny. I like it that you record these fun memories for posterity! And it’s fun for you that you like snow. I don’t. We’ve had snow once so far, and I didn’t feel an ounce or an iota of excitement when I looked out the window to see it.

I especially love the part in the story where you decided that your driveway needed to be shoveled at that moment. Such fun and games in the dating world! I’m guessing you were wearing your favorite spandex pants for additional excitement! (was she, Nathan?) heeheeee.

Very cute story, Rachel! Yes, snow is very fun to VISIT. I love the silence when it’s falling, and of course the white dusting, especially on the mountains. And in the moonlight – wow! Oh yeah, and the need to be CLOSE to someone in order to stay warm. 🙂
I’m just guessing that you will be experiencing some snow this winter as you travel to the Fernsten Cabin. What’s the elevation there?
