Employment

Although it is not the employment of choice at the moment . . . it is something to pass the time. I’ve been looking on craigslist.com for SOMETHING, anything to do. But it’s been hard not knowing when I will get my license, how long I can commit to a job, and so on . . .

2 weeks ago, I was looking under nanny services. Most of the parents looking for a nanny are looking for long-term, live in nannies. But I definitely did not want anything like that. Babysitting has been my job since I was 12 years old. After high school and all through college, taking after children supported my spending habits. I thought, well, it’s definitely something I can do and I actually kind of want to (I need to fill the loss of my precious Chase and Charlotte). On a Tuesday night, I came across an add that said this family was looking for someone just for the month of August. Perfection! I e-mailed them on Wednesday morning, got a call that afternoon, Thursday evening I met the little family, and started up the following Monday. Bam.

I am watching these little hooligans, M-F 8:30 a.m until 4:30 p.m.

17-month old twinners. They look cute. Which they are. But this first week has been quite rough. I’m not sure what it is, maybe it’s because they lost the nanny they’ve ever known (she was with them for a year and a half) or maybe it’s because their parents rarely spend time with them . . . or maybe they are competing with the other for more attention. Who knows. But they want to do everything that they are not supposed to do and laugh while they are doing it. They look at me, I give them “the look” and they smile and go on doing what I’ve already told them not to a million times before. They also cry at every moment possible for me to come to them or pick them up or play with them and not the other . . . and so on. It’s not easy. But the days are getting better as they get used to me. Twins are not easy. Heavenly Father, please bless me with one child at a time. Thank you. It’s also tough because there’s not much to do with these little ones yet. There’s no park nearby, they don’t exactly have the best backyard to play in, and the kids are at that in between stage where they are beginning to learn and understand, but still act like infants. Any suggestions? I know I’ve already talk to Mom and Joy about it and they have given excellent suggestions . . . but I need as many as possible.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO . . .

Thursday afternoon, the Father comes home to relieve me of my job, and he tells me I don’t need to come in the next day (Friday) because he doesn’t need to go to work. WOOHOO! That day, while the kids were taking a nap, I had signed up to take the dreaded CA Dental Hygiene Law and Ethics exam on September 3rd down in Santa Clara. I told Nathan that was the next available day to take it and closest facility. I also told him there was one for this Saturday, July 31 in Hayward, but there was no way I would be able to study in time for that one. He said, “Well, it’s only 28 bucks to take it. Study on Friday, take it on Saturday, and if you don’t pass, no big deal, sign up again and take it in September. That way you’ll have a better idea of what to study.” I thought, hmmm, good idea! Doesn’t hurt.

Friday, I studied ALL day.

Saturday morning, Nathan drops me off at the center in Hayward. 60 questions and 45 minutes later . . .

Hey I don’t know what you’re talking about… twins are awesome!! Haha no, I sympathize for ya. I know taking care of one toddler is tough, let alone 2! But congrats on your test. That’s a relief. So are you looking for jobs now?

haha, yes, well you guys are the exception!:) Thanks, I’m really excited! I’ll start looking soon, but I’m with these kids 8 hours a day until the end of August. So after that, it will be serious job search time! How are things going for you?? When does school start up for Wes?

I love the curls on those kids – sooo cute!
Ecstatic for your short cramtime and successful outcome – thanks for coming up so we could jump around & cheer!
Oh yeah, my kids are gorgeous AND brilliant! OK, I’ll stop bragging now. 🙂

WOW! amazing! thank goodness for husbands who are the risk-taking type! I am so happy for you. I’d write more, but Charlotte keeps climbing all over me so I need to go. but i’m so glad!!!!!

Thank goodness for risk-taking husbands, is right! Maybe it’s due to their warcraft skills.

Thanks for getting emotional about it, cause it is kind of a big deal!

Congrats. That is soooo exciting. Isn’t it amazing when things work out. As far as the twins, just enjoy them for now. Take notice of some things they like to do. These are some ideas that work for my kids: bubbles, play dough, water paint, books, puzzles, coloring, games, songs. I’m not sure what else to tell you. If I think of anything more then I will pass them along. Congrats again on passing. 🙂

you called Mom and Joy but not me??!! just because i don’t have kids… . well, if you had asked me for advice, i would say that you should treasure these days so you can have happy memories for when you have triplets.
