Ch-ch-ch-chia!

My brother Ryan told me all about Chia seeds quite a while ago and didn’t really think about them much. Then back in August, my boss’s son came home from college and introduced him to Chia seeds. He started adding them to his food and his daughter (who works at our front desk) started putting them in her water bottle and drinking it throughout the day. They started raving about all of the amazing benefits. Whenever we have patients with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, digestive problems, acid reflux, or heartburn, my boss goes on and on to our patients about how taking chia seeds daily will lower/get rid of these problems. They are supposedly high in fiber, protein, Omega-3/6, antioxidants, boost your energy and mood, cut back cravings, etc… Sound pretty amazing.

So I decided to try them for myself…

They gel up when you let them soak in water. It doesn’t take like much. I was thinking more of a nutty flavor, but nope, they just taste like… earth.

I was already feeling under the weather when I tried drinking this, so I don’t know if it was that, or the sight of it, I was just having a hard time enjoying this. It’s really not that gross, just the thought/sight of it, was grossing me out a little. I think I might stick to throwing it on top of my cereal and put in smoothies. According to the internet, it’s great for baking with too.

Casey thought it was an ant farm 🙂 you know, i get pumped about this kind of stuff (like almonds) and i eat them a few times and then get tired or forcing myself to eat them. let me know if you figure out any really good way of eating them. do you think they’d be good on my Life cereal?

I just realized I never responded to this… whoops! Life cereal would be fine, but they might sink to the bottom of your bowl. I would say oatmeal, granola, yogurt, smoothies… Anywhere I guess. Sometimes I throw them in my sandwich. Anywhere I can and not see or taste them.

i saw nathan’s comment on the side bar and thought he said “ch-ch-ch..granola!” and that reminded me of joy’s “l-l-l shuh shoo” 🙂
