Madeline’s 1st Birthday party!
The party was just perfect. Everything went really well and we all had a great time. I am so grateful for Nathan’s Mom and sisters and for my parents who did so much to help out!
That morning, I had to go to 2 classes at a dental convention in the city. It made for a stressful Friday night/Saturday morning, but it all worked out. Nathan stayed home with Madeline and cleaned up a bit. I didn’t have time to get ready or do my hair, which I was bugged about, but oh well! My parents came down a little early and Nathan and my Dad went on a bike ride.
Here is the cake. I was semi-proud of myself. If you look closely you can see it doesn’t look that fantastic cause you can see all my mistakes and the cake underneath. But it was my first attempt at anything like it! I watched a YouTube video and just went for it. Next time I make a cake, it’ll be perfect 🙂
Here is the table spread. Fruit and cupcakes were added later.

We just really love this ONE year old of ours.
We had to start the party right with a little techno dance party! This girl loooooves a good beat.
Drop it low. This is my favorite picture.
Presents! She opened presents after the dance party. She loved all the paper and looking in the bags. She even oohed and ahhed at some of the toys and clothes. She was in heaven, having all these people around and being able to get into all the paper and bags and toys. Riley was such a good helper. She helped Madeline open all her gifts. Madeline was definitely spoiled! She got a lot of new toys and lots of cute clothes! This girl is loved.

After presents, we moved on to the cake!
This girl was so funny with the cake. At first she didn’t really know what to do with it. She was looking up Nathan, then the cake, then back to Nathan, and the cake. Then she touched the frosting and started to pat the cake. She would just squish the frosting her in hands.
We kept telling her to just go for it! But she was apprehensive. Then Nathan gave her a little taste.
And she decided she liked it! She just dove right in with her mouth! Haha. I loved it!
She never went too crazy on the cake. I thought she was going to devour it. But she was so dainty and angelic with it. Every movement was so tender. Even when she dove in for the cake with her mouth, it was so soft and slow. It was so funny. She didn’t eat any of the cake part, but she liked the frosting.
And then she decided she was over it and ready for some real food. I hope that mentality lasts forever!!
Madeline with her two best friends. We love our Ashley and Riley. Kody and Kyle came along, as well Ashley’s mom, who is now serving a mission with her husband in Oakland! The boys stayed for a little bit, but the BYU football game was on, so they walked home to watch the game with their Dad. Nathan was a good sport too. He did all the fun stuff and was involved, and then as soon as he could, he sat on the couch with my Dad and the two of them watched the game on his Surface.
(I’m sad she’s washed out in this pic) Madeline with her Grandma Donna, Great Aunt Debbie, Aunt Rachel, and Aunt Megan!
